Tinubu Allocates Recovered Asset as Permanent National Headquarters for NDPC

The Federal Government has formalized institutional backing for national data governance following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a permanent, high-security facility for the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). The property, previously recovered through financial crimes enforcement proceedings, has been reallocated to house the commission's core operational command, regulatory enforcement wings, and compliance verification units.
National Commissioner and CEO of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, noted that the permanent headquarters resolves legacy spatial and infrastructural constraints as compliance enforcement scales across public and private sector database infrastructure. With data localization mandates, cross-border transfer frameworks, and strict enforcement of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) accelerating, a dedicated central facility is deemed critical for sensitive data auditing and forensic oversight.
The relocation underscores the administration’s strategy of rebalancing recovered state assets into high-yield regulatory infrastructure. Industry stakeholders view the move as a clear signal that data privacy compliance is transitioning into a core pillar of corporate and digital market governance.
Phased migration into the facility is slated to begin ahead of Q4 operational milestones, positioning Abuja as a central compliance hub for national data sovereignty.
